שילוח המרגלים דיהושע היה על פי ציווי ה' לעיר יריחו. שכן כיבוש יריחו רומז לכיבוש הלבושים, מחשבה, דיבור ומעשה, וזה חיוב על כל אדם כי הלבושים הם ברשותו. בנוסף, יריחו היתה מנעולה של ארץ ישראל, והדבר רומז לכך שעל ידי כיבוש הלבושים, מגיעים לכיבוש כל ארץ שבעה עממים, דהיינו בירור והפיכת כל השבע מדות.
